Hockey Hall of Fame Blog #2

I was commissioned to do a piece for the hockey Hall of Fame players of Jacques Plante, Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau. Obviously the large hurdle was getting the composition and a scene that can tell the story of these wonderful Montreal Canadian Players.

Layout was the primary concern. Here are some layouts:

Color was a problem and a major concern. A lot of red was a little harsh on the eyes as well as difficult to control as a value in highlights and shadow.

Layout was important to show action as well as having all three players evenly portrayed.

I finally decided on this layout as well as keeping the white outfits for the players. This would certainly be easier on the eyes than keeping the red uniform. Eventually, after several layouts the decision to use this layout along with the color was the right one.
